Since the dawn of time, fireballs have lit up the sky of planet Earth. The earliest sightings are recorded on cave walls and told to people through the mists of time via the myths and legends of the past.
FIREBALLS: A History of Meteors and other Atmospheric Phenomena examines some of these myths, and it also gives a chronology of meteors and other atmospheric phenomena which have been seen in the sky since ancient times. It looks at terrestrial fireballs such as ball lightning, St. Elmo’s fire, and the will-o’-the wisp.
The book also poses some interesting questions:
- 1) Was the roman general Pompey killed by an exploding meteor in 87 B.C.?
- 2) What was the strange light seen by Columbus on the evening of October 11, 1492?
- 3) What caused a great explosion over the Tunguska region of Siberia in 1908?
This release answers these questions and much more.
